Persistence or Patients Which is Best Virtue?

Persistence vs. Patients the Real Difference

What is the big deal in comparing these two fine qualities? It comes down to this truth, in life when we choose a word it can stunt us, holding us back. Yes simple words have the power to motivate or discourage. It is up to each one of us to make sure we use the best possible word.

Before we get to the root of importance concerning these words, let me say that they both have a common meaning. They both involve time as an element for testing the nature of our character in dealing with situations that happen to us in life. Time passing will let us know just how patient or persistent we really are.

What is the difference between persistence and patients?

Persistence is proactive: It creates a drive for completion which can bypass procrastination, fear, and a host of other negative effects. Persistence helps us look inward for motivation, instead of outward for cues. With persistence you can get things done with steady resolve.

Patients is passive: It creates a sedentary or passive mental state. Nothing is moving forward with patients, because it's reactive by nature, we are focused on what we are being patient for. Patients can also create a martyr syndrome when we fall into the trap of feeling smug about how patient we are.

Next time you find yourself waiting for a business partner or spouse to get their job done. Forget about being patient, be proactive and make some progress by using the skill of persistence. Apply persistence in a positive way by working on an aspect of the project you can do without them.

Avoid being patient while waiting in a doctors office, instead use persistence to read as many magazine articles from the stack located on the end table before the nurse calls you. Think persistence for proactive results and you will not get caught twiddling your thumbs wait with patients.
